The Tradition of Visual Storytelling and the Photobook in the Netherlands
Photography Studies College is delighted to welcome Corinne Noordenbos for our 54th Image Makers Seminar. The success of the photobook in The Netherlands is greater than ever. Photobooks have now reached all corners of the photographic world and Dutch photobooks are regularly at the centre of major international prizes . Where does this success come from? How did they build up this reputation? And what are the traditions that have created this success? In her lecture Corinne Noordenbos will explain not only the traditions of the photobook, but also define conceptual documentary photography and its roots in the Dutch culture. What are the pitfalls, what is needed for success and really reach an audience. What has one of the most famous paintings in the world, the 'Nightwatch' of Rembrandt has to do with Documentary Photography? What was the influence of the post-war period of the 50s? What are current developments in conceptual visual storytelling photography and bookmaking in the Netherlands? And last but not least Corinne will highlight advantages for multidisciplinary collaborations in the process of bookmaking.
